Serves as Working Leader at the VA Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN, with-in the Environmental Management Services (EMS) department. Housekeeping Aid Leader assists Housekeeping Aid Supervisor in coordinating, distributing, monitoring tasks, and providing on-the-job guidance, and support related to the EMS operations. Work Leader will help with daily tasks such as cleanliness, textile distribution, and training. Does not have formal disciplinary authority.
Duties include but are not limited to: Assists the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor in coordinating, distributing, and monitoring tasks related to the environment of care, linen/textile distribution, and related EMS operations. The leader will communicate instructions from the Supervisor to the employees and then validates the completion of the work assigned.
This position reports progress of employees to the Supervisor and makes recommendations as necessary, on all matters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance. Maintains records as directed, and reports concerns related to supply needs, safety hazards, or process improvements to the supervisor.
Provides on-the-job training and mentoring to all employees assigned to ensure proper procedures, infection control, and safety protocols are followed. Supports EMS goals and objectives by promoting teamwork, fostering communication, and leading by example in the performance of duties. As a working leader, the position also performs the full range of housekeeping duties, helping to ensure all work areas meet VA cleanliness and sanitation standards.
Including, but not limited to: dust mopping, damp mopping, emptying waste receptacles, emptying and replacing medical waste receptacle, washing walls, cleaning light fixtures, and surfaces as necessary, refilling toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers. The position makes beds and turns mattresses, polishes floors, including stripping, refinished and scrubbing floors.
May be required to take the lead in textile distribution and inventory management, uniform management and Patient Assistance Program. Identifies and recommends to the Supervisor employees that need remedial training based on observations made in the work site. May be required to move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings, trainings or other events. Other duties assigned.
Housekeeping Aid Work Leaders also oversee projects such as: Shampooing carpets Cleaning light fixtures Washing walls Does not have formal supervisory or disciplinary authority, but plays a key role in organizing work and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.

The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds.
The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
