The Miami VA Healthcare System's Safety and Emergency Management Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Industrial Hygienist. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation. An industrial hygienist at the Miami VA Healthcare System plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and health of both staff and researchers engaged in critical medical research.
Their work is crucial in developing comprehensive occupational health programs, providing training and education on safety practices, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Duties include but are not limited to: Identifying, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors that can affect health and well-being in the workplace. Assist in mitigating risks associated with occupational exposures.
Potential health hazards are identified, and analyses of toxic materials are made. Exposure monitoring is conducted, and employees are promptly notified in case of overexposure. Collaborate with Work Area Supervisors to develop compliance training and analyze training needs. Other duties assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30am-4pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor.
The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs). Position Description Title/PD#: Industrial Hygienist/PD08487-0 Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health.
This position requires moderate lifting up to 44 lbs., carrying objects up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands and legs, use of cranes and motor vehicles, walking & standing up to 8 hours, bending and climbing and able to hear whisper. The incumbent must be physically, emotionally and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others.
