Job Summary

The mission of TIGTA's Office of Investigations is to protect the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from internal and external threats and corruption that could negatively impact the IRS' administration of tax laws. We detect and deter waste, fraud and abuse in IRS programs and operations and protect the IRS against internal misconduct, corruption and external attempts to corrupt or threaten employees.

We provide independent oversight to Treasury on IRS activities & IRS Office of Chief Counsel.

Key Responsibilities

As a Information Specialist and Investigative Technology Lead, you will: Conduct studies and analyses in coordination with the Office of Audit and Investigations, and various other TIGTA managers and executives, in developing methods and techniques. Create programs to support legally sufficient forensic data recovery activities, in compliance with generally recognized federal law enforcement and Department of Justice standards, in support of investigations.

Maintain liaison with forensic technicians, security officials, or engineers in other law enforcement agencies and EDP or telecommunications organizations in the private sector.

Provide support and expert advice in the analysis of investigative/evidence gathering requirements and development, and testing of software configurations to meet requirements, acquisition of appropriate hardware, and development of training in automated methods of investigation and evidence gathering.

Coordinate data warehouse efforts for TIGTA audits and Investigations by writing programs to extract data from IRS systems, storing data in logical file structures, and designing appropriate data communication techniques to allow warehouse access.
