The position is located within the Security and Hazardous Materials Safety (ASH) organization and may be assigned to a geographical location under the purview of the Office of Investigations & Professional Responsibility (AXI). The mission of ASH is to ensure aviation safety, support national security, and promote an efficient airspace system through the development and administration of policies and programs.
The incumbent will serve as an Investigative Analyst in the Analytics and Oversight Branch. The incumbent will perform a mixture of basic and routine, but progressively more difficult assignments, under the close direction of the manager or more experienced specialist. Applies basic technical knowledge of investigative procedures, concepts, principles, and practices to analyze work products and other investigative activities. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Participate in quality assessments of investigations, closed cases, and management inquiries to quantify and qualify operational activities, and identify patterns, along with trends and gaps to support Lines of Business and Staff Offices that may impact the safety of the National Air Space (NAS). Provide reports that identify insights, vulnerabilities, and risks to Senior Management. Assist in researching and analyzing a wide variety of data and information sources to develop investigative reporting, analyze trends, and to develop briefing material and status reports for FAA Departmental and Congressional leadership. Use a variety of computer programs, databases, data systems, and sophisticated analytical software, graphics, and other automated applications to document potential integrity concerns and perform trend analysis to inform proactive approaches and strategies. Assess, use, interpret, and analyze government and open source data systems for thorough analysis and reporting as necessary. Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. Works under detailed instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. Refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist when existing guidelines are not available or applicable. Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and technical compliance with the requirements of the project or other work activity. Performs other duties as assigned.
