Job Summary

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Operational Support Division, Office of Forensic Science Field Laboratories. This position(s) primary purpose is to receive, inspect, catalog, and organize all evidence, drug and non-drug, as well as legal document submissions, while directly maintaining and protecting the chain of custody for laboratory evidence submissions.

Key Responsibilities

As a Laboratory Evidence Control Specialist, your typical work assignments may include: Proper handling of different types of evidence to include hazardous and biohazards (to include blood, body secretions, chemical agents, narcotics, etc.). Using various mailing systems applications for package labeling and package tracking for shipping evidence.

Accounting for the safe, efficient, and expeditious return of other federal and non-federal agency evidence to its originating office in a manner that meets all security requirements. Conducting and overseeing annual and internal inventory audits and reconciliation of all evidence within the laboratory by comparing LIMS data against the physical evidence and as required reconciling with field offices.

Receiving and distributing evidence for chemical, digital, and fingerprint analysis, court proceedings, defense reanalysis, special programs and other various purposes to and from laboratory personnel as well as other law enforcement agencies.
