Job Summary

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Ramey Sector, Sector Intelligence Unit, located in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will collect, analyze, and disseminate intelligence using law enforcement databases, geospatial tools, and video/sensor systems to support real-time operations. The work directly enhances U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Border Patrol's (USBP) ability to detect, deter, and interdict threats at and between ports of entry, improving officer safety and the security of the nation's borders.

This position starts at a salary of $61,722.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS-09, Step 10). As a Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist (LEISS), you will be responsible for performing real-time intelligence, surveillance, geospatial, and database analysis in support of law enforcement and border security operations.

Typical duties will include: Collecting and analyzing intelligence from law enforcement databases, video/remote sensors, and geospatial information to produce real-time reports that support field operations and officer safety. Reviewing and interpreting surveillance video, imagery, and sensor alerts to detect and identify incursions, prepare related forensic audio/video evidence, and testify in court, as needed.

Utilizing Enterprise Geospatial Information Services (eGIS) to provide agents with rapid access to historical activity and situational awareness data to enhance operational effectiveness. Conducting rapid, real-time research across multiple national, international, and state databases to determine identity, immigration status, criminal history, and potential threats, and relays findings to agents and partner agencies.

You may be returned, at any time, to the position you held prior to this temporary promotion, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay, and the return is not subject to the procedures found in 5 C.F.R. §§ 351, 432, 752, and 771. If you are currently at the grade level of the position announced, this action will result in a reassignment, and you may be returned at any time to a same or similar position held prior to this temporary assignment.

If you currently hold a grade level higher than the grade being announced, this action will result in a change to lower grade, and you may be returned at any time to the position held prior to this temporary assignment or to the same or similar position at the lower grade level. Return to your original location will be prioritized, but is not guaranteed. At management's discretion, you may be permanently placed to this position without further competition.
