This position is located in the Human Resources Directorate (HRD), Washington Headquarters Services. HRD provides a variety of key operational support and advisory assistance to civilian and military human resources, personnel security, and voluntary campaigns management functions in direct support to the Office of the Secretary of War. This position was established as a Team leader for the American Sign Language Interpreters within WHS/HRD.
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Serve as a senior ASL interpreter for hearing-impaired employees, WHS employees, applicants, and visitors. This includes simultaneously interpreting between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) or manually-coded English during high-level meetings, briefings, training sessions, and counseling discussions.
Lead the American Sign Language Interpreter team by coordinating, coaching, and facilitating their work. This involves communicating assignments, distributing the workload, monitoring progress, and leading the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses to improve work processes. Manage program oversight, including planning, execution, and evaluation of interpreting services.
This duty involves ensuring activities are consistent with organizational goals, developing policies, and providing guidance to managers on program-related issues. Act as a senior technical adviser on ASL and interpreting issues. The role requires advising senior officials on the Interpreting Services Program, reporting to supervisors on team accomplishments and challenges, and representing the team's findings in meetings.
Represent the team to obtain necessary resources (e.g., computer hardware, software) and informs the supervisor of performance management issues. This includes recommending actions such as reassignments, promotions, and performance appraisals on behalf of the team.
