Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran.

This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.

Major duties include but are not limited to: Oversight of quality control/assurance procedures on equipment, reagents, and products which include implementation, monitoring, review, analyzing and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Initiate investigations into non-conforming events. Provide constructive feedback to CLS on errors and promote learning and improvement.

In collaboration with leadership, conduct training sessions or coaching to address common error patterns and reinforce best practices. Reviews suggested resolutions of problems/incompatibilities to determine the most appropriate solution as required for situations. Resolves problems/situations utilizing independent judgement. Consults with leadership as needed and provides follow-up of issues to leadership.

After evaluating new techniques and procedures provided by the laboratory team prepares follow-up reports with additional data and final recommendations for leadership. Completes necessary documentation for new validation/verification studies to be submitted to leadership for approvals.

Communicates effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member, even under difficult conditions, fostering a professional, courteous, and effective manner of communication appropriate to the situation, providing direction and guidance. Provides excellent service as defined by the customer (healthcare providers, patients, and others).

Provides further guidance to other staff members regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity and specific factors which influence test results. Develop materials for competency assessments, such as problem-solving items and samples for testing. Collaboration across all NWI site leadership (Pathologist, Supervisors/Leads), i.e. test changes, blind samples, procedural updates, etc.

Authority to rearrange bench assignments to manage the daily workload. Generate/review the final plan for the process improvements and present to leadership. Completes the assigned checklists/standards for inspection readiness. Provides resolution for any identified non-conformances. Extracting and entering data for the quality dashboard. Attend and represent assigned section during Quality Assurance meeting.
