The Lead MRI Technologist is an operator of the super conductive Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI), a highly complex computerized imaging device which employs the use of strong magnetic fields and radio waves to acquire images. The Lead MRI Technologist operates independently without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for coordination of all MRI procedures and examinations as well as reconstructions using raw image data associated with these examinations.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but not limited to: MRI Technologist prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing MRI examinations requiring injectable contrast. These procedures require the use of needles, syringes, power injectors, and contrast media. The Lead MRI Technologist leads a group of MRI Technologists working on both a closed and open MRI unit.
In which all manner of MRI examinations is performed to include routine and emergent MR examinations of the Head, Spine, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, upper and lower extremities to include the joints. More complex MR examinations such as MRCPs, focused Liver, Pancreas, Renal, Cardiac protocols, MR arthrograms, and MRA's to include abdominal MRAs, Arterial Runoffs of the upper and lower extremities with Multiplaner, 3D and MIP reconstructions.
The MRI Technologist must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce the more complex and complicated MR examinations.
MRI Technologist has a responsibility to recognize and exhibit good safety practices around the super conductive magnet to comply with published FDA safety standards and communicated safety procedures especially when allowing entry into the magnet gantry room (5 gauss magnetic field) of; ferrous objects which could harm patients and employees, patients with cardiac pacemakers and other implantable devices, checking patients and others with magnetic detector before entering room and to immediately report observed safety infractions and unsafe working conditions.
The Lead MRI Technologist leads the group of MRI Technologists and personnel in all facets of the MRI safety screening processes.
