This position is located in Milwaukee, WI, the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. The position is organizationally aligned to the Veterans Transportation Program. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Supervisory Transportation Assistant in the day-to-day management of the Medical Center's Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) section. The VTS section operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Major Duties: The Lead Transportation Assistant will lead a minimum of 5.0 full time employees. Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production report as requested.
Responsible for ensuring the Beneficiary Travel office staff provide transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for examination, treatment, or care. Direct oversight of the transportation assistants performing all office functions. Receives invoices for payment of transportation services.
Investigates authorizations, orders, and/or utilizes the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to review medical records, forwards to supervisory approval, and submits all documents for payment utilizing the appropriate fund control point for reference. Assists with arrangement for all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus, and/or contracted transport services.
