The LPN must demonstrate an exceptional degree of practical nursing knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex practical nursing care assignments. Employee exhibits independent technical judgment, critical thinking skills, and the use of independent judgment to carry out complex patient-assigned duties, which include prioritization and coordination of patients seen in the Outpatient Specialty Clinic with minimal supervision.
The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), GS-7 performs more complex nursing assignments within their setting. The LPN/LVN possesses comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices. The LPN/LVN GS-7 work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. Individuals in these positions are to a considerable extent, expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing. Employees at this grade level demonstrate broader knowledge skill with respect to these responsibilities than employees at lower grades. The GS-7 LPN/L VN is responsible for goals and interventions that promote veterans in attaining maximum functional potential. This is accomplished through but not limited to modalities such as ambulation, bowel and bladder training, dressing, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, range of motion exercises and fall prevention modalities. The incumbent has basic knowledge and skills necessary for a concentrated effort and is somewhat independent in carrying out standardized procedures of limited complexity. The incumbent is responsible to deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. Participates in the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's treatment plan. b. Interacts with patients in groups in accordance with the patient's treatment plan. c. Skilled in assisting providers with specialty procedures, demonstrating knowledge of sterile techniques and proper sterile field setup. Flexible and able to cross-train and provide support to multiple specialty clinics as needed.
