Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) 7 is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. Duties include but are not limited to: Uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), and Bar-Coded Medication Administration (BCMA), software per policy.

Assist with the care coordination and communicate needs of high-risk patients to the team. Facilitates clinic check-out and follow-up visits by reviewing post-visit needs. Enters orders using the approved PACT Nursing Protocols (Hold to Sign) in response to identified patient needs. Orders may include labs, procedures such as EKGs and Chest X-rays.

Performs a wide range of clinical and administrative functions on a daily basis, including but not limited to; completing clinical reminders, conducting patient data intakes, answering secure messages, multi-level patient tracking, schedule preparation (scrubbing), and reinforcing patient education.

Assists with diagnostic procedures, such as biopsies, which include preparing the patient, setting up sterile field and instrumentation, and monitoring the patient's condition when applicable to the outpatient clinic setting. Recognizes, reports, and documents significant, as well as subtle changes in a patient's physical condition and/or emotional condition or changes to a higher-level independent provider.

Demonstrates basic skills in preparation, administration, and documentation of commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intra-muscular, and other medications as permitted by facility policies and procedures. Provides and documents patient education on medications. Completes chart and scheduling reviews for the following day (scrubbing) and is able to mentor other team members with administrative duties.

Provides instructions to patients with pre- and post-procedures, diagnostic tests, and takes an active role in promoting Whole Health practices. Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and the ability to promptly recognize and intervene in potentially urgent or emergent situations. Recognizes, reports, and documents significant and subtle changes.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Although these positions are under the supervision of an RN and/or MD/DO, employees in such settings successfully and consistently demonstrate the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision), as well as a comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures.

Such individuals may also serve as leaders or co-leaders in a nursing unit or for a specifically identified group of patients.
