The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran. The LPN performs within this functional statement under guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee. Assigned tasks require basic technical competence and skill.
Duties include but are not limited to: The LPN is assigned to a patient care area. The LPN observes and interviews patients and significant others to gather data for reporting and/or documentation according to policy and standards. The LPN GS-5 recognizes and reports to Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Healthcare Provider (HCP) immediately signs and symptoms of emergencies such as evisceration, hemorrhage, shock, coma, seizure, and airway obstruction.
The LPN provides patient care and administers medications. The LPN is responsible for the storage, proper cleaning techniques, and use of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). The LPN must be able to locate the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all RME in the clinical area. The LPN is responsible for carrying out proper procedures for caring for patients in an isolation environment by following proper infection control procedures.
Preferred Experience: 2 years of LPN experience in Long Term Care, Acute or Ambulatory Clinic care 1 to 2 years of general clinical experience, with specific backgrounds in chronic care management 9CCM), remote patient monitoring (RPM), or direct virtual care. Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, Microsoft 365, and various video-conferencing or telehealth software. Work Schedule: Full-Time, 0730-1600.
