Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Major Duties

The LPN works under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse and displays knowledge and ability in providing a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. The LPN serves as a responsible member of the nursing team and interacts with patients, family members, professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care, and with members of other services. The LPN provides resident-centered care approaches where the healthcare and treatment plan are driven by the needs, preferences, and life-long habits of the residents. It is the goal of care to restore or maintain the resident at their highest practicable level of wellbeing, maximum function, and independence, prevent decline in health and to provide comfort at the end of life. The registered nurse makes patient assignments and gives specific instructions as necessary; however, the LPN is generally expected to know what to do and how to do it. The LPN recognizes the need for and seeks guidance when necessary to ensure quality patient care. Through periodic observation, the registered nurse evaluates work performance and gives direction as needed.
