Job Summary

At the Fargo VA Health Care System, Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses play a vital role in helping Veterans achieve their highest functional potential. In this restorative care setting, you will use advanced practical nursing skills, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, and make a meaningful impact on the health, safety, and independence of those who served our nation

Key Responsibilities

The LPN GS-7 work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or provider. The LPN is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Community Living Center clinic and possesses the knowledge and skills for ongoing support, and role development of the LPN. Individuals in these positions will be self-directed in planning, implementing and evaluating tasks and programs assigned.

In this restorative nursing role, you will provide specialized, hands-on care that supports Veterans' physical, emotional, and therapeutic goals. Working both independently and alongside Registered Nurses and other health professionals, you will help guide mobility, medication administration, rehabilitation techniques, and continuity of care.

This position offers the opportunity to build strong clinical judgment while making a direct difference in Veterans' daily functioning and quality of life. Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs specialized practical nursing care and adapts procedures based on patient condition. Applies restorative nursing concepts to support Veteran functioning in the Community Living Center and Medical Center.

Reports and documents significant patient information accurately and consistently. Collaborates with rehabilitation disciplines to meet Veterans' therapeutic goals. Prepares and administers medications and monitors patients for physical or emotional changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Assesses and supports continuity of care by identifying needs for supplies and equipment.

Coordinates with the interdisciplinary team regarding equipment and restorative modalities. Assists with restorative techniques such as dysphagia management, fall prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, and toileting. Notifies the Registered Nurse of incidents and completes required reports and documentation. Work Schedule: Sunday-Saturday; 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Rotating holidays and weekends required.

Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized Physical requirements: This position requires some degree of fitness, strength, and agility.

Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting arm overhead, and similar activities. You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination.

Requirements & Education

Your education program must be approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (Formerly: National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission) at the time the program was completed.

Exceptions include: Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements for VHA employment. OR Current GS-0620 LPN/LVN employee of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) who was converted to an appointment under 38 U.S.C.

7401(3) in implementation of Public Law 98-160, enacted November 21, 1983, or who was converted to an appointment under 38 U.S.C. 7405 in implementation of Public Law 99-576, enacted October 28, 1986. OR Individual granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school. Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
