This position is an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) aligned under Primary Care and is located at the Wilmington Clinic Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The LPN delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies. The LPN is expected to work in collaboration with the registered nurse and/or providers from the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) within their scope of practice, according to policies, training and accepted VA practice.

Reviews laboratory request orders to ensure all required information is present. Obtain blood samples by venipuncture; assures that proper specimens are obtained, and physiological properties and test requirements are maintained until actual testing procedure. Apply sterile dressing to site and instructs patients on care required to prevent infection and/or bruising. Prepare specimens for various automated urinalysis. Review laboratory request orders to ensure all required information is present. Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers. Assure that patient safety is paramount in all aspects of patient care. Properly and accurately labels specimens, annotating time of collection, ensuring proper collection day and initialing all tubes collected. Integrate and apply pertinent aspects of the Outpatient Clinic performance improvement program into his/her professional practice. Integrate and apply aspects of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations National Patient Safety Goals as applicable to their area of practice. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Exceptions include: Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements for VHA employment.
