Key Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) serves as the point of care within the Northeast Wisconsin Ambulatory Care (NEWAC) Division located at the Green Bay Health Care Center. The LPN function is to provide quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population of varying complexity in a variety of settings within the NEWAC Division.

The practice of each LPN is based on skill, experience, and research and has a direct impact on client outcomes for the assigned area and the facility as a whole. The LPN possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. Major Duties: Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers.

Maintain confidentiality of patient/employee information electronically, verbally, and written. Work and function within a safe manner including infection control and operation of equipment. Integrate and apply pertinent aspects of the Medical Center performance improvement program into his/her professional practice. Utilize nursing research and literature in daily practice. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.

Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Attends to the care of the veteran in meeting the VA Medical Center's Vision and Mission. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, on Days/1st shift; a rare PM or weekend shift may be required *A Recruitment or Relocation Incentive has been approved for a highly-qualified applicant. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
