Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties

The Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran. The scope of assigned duties will be determined by the grade in which the incumbent is selected. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Provide practical nursing care in outpatient specialty clinics under RN or provider supervision. Administer prescribed medications and treatments; monitor and document patient responses. Perform routine and specialty clinical procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, bladder scans, ear lavage, and assist with diagnostic testing. Conduct focused assessments, screening, and pre-visit calls to support clinic workflow. Recognize urgent/emergent situations and initiate emergency interventions as directed. Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, and self-care using motivational interviewing. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care and maintain clinic flow. Serve as a preceptor for newer LPNs, nursing assistants, and health technicians. Support clinic operations including scheduling, secure messaging, and supply management. Accurately document care, assessments, and patient education in EMR systems. Identify equipment or safety issues and maintain infection control compliance. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm; with possible evening and weekend shifts. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
