The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor is under the Mental Health and Behavioral Science Service at the West Palm Beach VAMC. The incumbent will work with and clinically supporting Acute Care Mental Health, which includes inpatient psychiatric unit, inpatient medicine, and the ED.
In addition to providing direct patient care, the LPMHC has supportive administrative duties, as described below: Additional duties include but not limited to: Provide mental health services within the knowledge, theory, and training foundations of professional counseling for patients presenting with mental and medical problems in Acute Care Mental Health Impatient settings. Complete Suicide Risk Identification to include CSREs, Safety Plans, and consultation with Suicide Prevention Team as needed. Provide evidence-based psychotherapy services including individual, family, couples, or group psychotherapy and behavioral modification for addressing behavioral and psychological symptoms. Function as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Provide consultation and treatment recommendations to professional staff within the medical units, inpatient psychiatric unit, ED, and community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for the patients in his/her care. Develop, implement, and document the treatment plan for patients seen, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. Function independently as a member of the West Palm Beach VAMC Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges. The incumbent assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation. Comply with all regulations of the Veterans Health Administration. Clinical documentation will comply with service policies. Assist in the design, development, and implementation of clinical activities within the MH&BS service, to include program development. Adhere to operational policies and procedures established for the MH&BS. Attend and participate in administrative and clinical staff meetings as needed. Serve on Mental Health or Medical Center committees or task forces, as appropriate. Participate in ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
