Job Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications is Friday, September 4, 2026 and applicants will be referred on an 'as needed' basis thereafter. This Announcement has been opened through September 17, 2026, and may be extended if needed prior to the updated closing date. Note: Vacancies may not currently exist at all advertised locations, but may later occur prior to the closing date.

Key Responsibilities

Come Join Our Team! The Veterans Health Administration VISN 2 is looking for multiple Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselors (LPMHCs). Major duties include, but are not limited to: Independently practice professional counseling and to provide mental health services within the knowledge, theory, and training foundations of professional counseling. LPMHCs may be assigned to any VHA area, consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate.

LPMHCs may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities. Work Schedule: A variety of work schedules are available; Work schedule will be determined upon selection. NOTE: May be expected to work rotating weekends and holidays. Telework: Yes- as determined by the agency policy. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. EDRP Authorized: Position(s) listed under this Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) MAY be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. If the position is determined to be eligible, the selectee must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Applicants selected for an EDRP-eligible position will be notified in their conditional job offer. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.

Requirements & Education

Continuation of Qualifications: 5. Ability to establish goals/treatment through a collaborative process with the patient utilizing advanced counseling skills, including evidence-based practices, screening, and psychosocial assessment. 6. Ability to use a wide variety of individual, group, or family counseling interventions. 7.

Ability to utilize the current DSM in making diagnoses and formulation of treatment goals and application of appropriate clinical intervention using professional counseling. 8. Ability to develop and facilitate psychotherapy and psycho-education groups that include life skills, family support, and community integration. This may include evidence-based psychotherapy.
