The position is located in the Behavioral Health (BH) Service's Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) program. BH provides ambulatory care services to mentally ill and/or substance abusing Veterans and their significant others. Veterans receiving services may have concurrent psychiatric disorders, personality disorders, substance use disorders, medical conditions, and multiple psychosocial stressors. Thus, the biopsychosocial status of many of the BH Clinic (BHC) patients is severely compromised.
FUNCTIONS OR SCOPES OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: At admission, LPMHC performs a comprehensive intake assessment and SUD evaluation that satisfy Joint Commission (JC) standards and provides clinically meaningful information related to the specific cognitive - social learning treatment approach used in the BHC. The Behavioral Health Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention. When providing treatment, incumbent relies on their own clinical judgment to address patient problems in a fashion that is consistent with the knowledge and skills of other professional staff with Master's level training. The case management responsibilities of the Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor do not differ from other BHC staff (i.e., Psychologist, Social Worker, or Nurse). If a patient is engaged in therapy with the counselor, then LPMHC may be designated as the Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC).
