The Maintenance and Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the work operations of the Utilities Systems Shop in the Maintenance & Operations Section of Engineering Service at the Marion Campus which includes boiler plant, plumbing and piping operations. Provides necessary inspections, documentation, follow-up action and training to meet all Joint Commission, OSHA, AWE, VACO, VISN, and required medical center safety programs.
The duties of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor includes but is not limited to: Plans weekly schedule of the assigned shop employees by sequencing operations and assignments in order of importance. Responsible for ensuring deadlines and production schedules are met. Coordinates work efforts with appropriate personnel; keeps higher level supervision informed of the status of work in progress.
Assigns proper subordinates to tasks to complete boiler plant and piping projects in an efficient and effective manner. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, requirements, and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
Determines equipment, material, and maintenance needs utilizing the scope of the work or task required, results of cost estimates, and precautions necessary to protect patients, environment, personnel, and equipment. Establish of local policies for achieving management objectives and goals and represents management on such matters as required. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures as needed.
Makes occasional spot checks on jobs in progress and performs final inspections on more important jobs. Investigates work related problems including excessive costs or low productivity to determine causes. Implements corrective actions within their authority to resolve work problems. Responsible for the general administrative and supervisory personnel functions of their unit. Performs annual and midterm performance evaluations and determines training needs.
Conducts both a midterm and annual performance appraisal for all supervised employees within timeframes established by the medical center. Maintains production reports and records. Prepares cost estimates for assigned trade shop equipment needed. Inputs and manages data regarding labor hours, repair expenditures and other work order information. Responsible for all personnel, union issues, and administrative matters involving assigned trade shops.
