This position is aligned under the Preventative Maintenance and Repair (PM&R) section, Facility Management Division, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI (695) - a Level 1b Complexity VHA Facility. The position functions as the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, Preventative Maintenance and Repair (PM&R) shop and has full responsibility for supervision of 17 employees.
Responsible for direct supervision of Maintenance Mechanic Work Leaders, Industrial Equipment Mechanics, Welders, Electricians, Pipefitter/Steamfitters, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic and Carpenters. Responsible for planning, coordination, and supervision of the operation and maintenance of HVAC building service equipment and associated systems. Establishes priorities and deadlines based on general work schedules, methods, policies, and code requirements.
Estimates and orders materials for operations, maintenance, repair, improvements to boiler and air conditioning equipment systems and structures. Guided by federal, state, and VA Regulations, engineering principles and trade practices and governing codes. Participates in final inspections of all new projects concerning equipment operations/maintenance (including hospital side systems), assigned utility systems, and special equipment installations.
Reviews and analyzes completed work, reviews incurred costs, and unanticipated difficulties/delays to evaluate work processes, cost controls, and to anticipate and/or avoid problems. Develops, implements, and/or modifies methods and procedures to ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance and continual improvement of operational program activities.
Has the delegated authority to implement and recommend promotions, reassignments, or other status changes of subordinate personnel including overseeing attendance and leave. Inform employees about policies, procedures & management goals relating to the work of the team. Reviews work orders and determines personnel and methods to accomplish work.
Utilizes automated computer software for day to day operations, such as but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, VISTA, VATAS, AMES/MERs, etc Must obtain and maintain Level 2 Contracting Officer Representative (COR) Certification required to manage service contracts for the shop that the position is responsible for.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday with a rotating tour of 6:00 am - 2:30 pm for two weeks and then 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm for two weeks, and may be required to be present to provide off-hours support for utility outages, maintenance and projects support.
