This position is located at the Erie VA Medical Center, Facility Management Service, Maintenance & Repair (M&R) section. The incumbent performs work involved in the maintenance and repair of exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, missionary, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, cement work, painting, and other related trades.
Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD00511A Major Duties: Performs a wide variety of maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction work throughout medical center facilities. Completes journey-level carpentry assignments supporting interior and exterior facility improvement projects. Repairs, modifies, and maintains structural components, building finishes, fixtures, and related facility systems.
Performs drywall, plaster, wall-finishing, and surface restoration work in support of renovation and maintenance activities. Applies protective and decorative coatings to wood, metal, concrete, masonry, and other building surfaces. Performs roof maintenance and repair activities, including removal of deteriorated materials and preparation for replacement or restoration.
Supports multidisciplinary maintenance projects requiring coordination with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pipefitting, and other skilled trades. Evaluates maintenance problems, determines appropriate repair methods, and identifies the tools and materials necessary to complete assignments. Performs assigned construction and repair projects independently while ensuring completed work meets established quality, safety, and building requirements.
Maintains safe work practices while operating hand tools, powered equipment, and specialized trade equipment in occupied healthcare facilities. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Compressed/Flexible Schedule: Not Authorized.
