The primary purpose of the Maintenance Worker is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Seasonal Staffing Office- Bering Land Bridge National Preserve is October through March but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: November 2026.
Some of the Maintenance Worker Standard Duties include but are not limited to: Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds. Perform minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters. Construct, install, repair and replace such items as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
Perform routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, to include cleaning restrooms, and making minor repairs as needed. May perform other duties such as painting equipment, roofing, welding or assisting higher grade workers. Additional WG-07 Duties Diagnoses and repairs deficiencies on buildings, structures, equipment, and utilities. Assist journeyman Electrician and HVAC technicians with park electrical, mechanical system maintenance.
Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or van and stake trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. May operate a dump truck to haul earth, gravel, sand, and similar materials and/or debris.
Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees).
Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

The posted pay range is $35.38 – $41.27/hr.
