The Chief of Health Care Administration Service (HAS) for the Alaska VA Healthcare System oversees key HAS operations, including administrative support to clinical programs, admissions, beneficiary travel, clinic cancellations, coding, customer service, data management, decedent affairs, EWL management, eligibility, enrollment, HIM, insurance scanning, scheduling, compliance, software management, and the Veterans Transportation System.
Duties include but are not limited to: Plans, organizes, and directs comprehensive patient administrative management programs to meet legal, procedural, and administrative requirements related to Veteran care. Develops and manages both short- and long-range goals and strategic plans for Health Care Administration Service (HAS). Establishes, implements, and reviews administrative procedures for the preparation, maintenance, and custody of patient records.
Coordinates compliance certification of VA Directives with VISN and VA Central Office. Provides administrative support to clinical programs, admissions, beneficiary travel, clinic cancellations, coding, customer service, data management, decedent affairs, electronic waiting list management, eligibility, enrollment, health information management, insurance scanning, scheduling, and Veterans Transportation System.
Manages personnel issues within HAS, including hiring, promotions, selections, awards, disciplinary actions, and performance appraisals. Develops budgets, manages fund control points, and makes recommendations regarding resource needs and distribution. Establishes annual training and career development programs, ensuring compliance with performance measures and Joint Commission guidelines.
Participates in internal and external reviews, quality improvement, system redesign, and LEAN teams. Investigates employee complaints and implements or recommends appropriate action. Serves as facility liaison on health administrative issues within the Alaska VA Healthcare system, VAMC, VISN, and other VHA facilities. Utilizes resources in an appropriate and cost-effective manner, encouraging team participation in cost savings initiatives.
Ensures compliance with accuracy of patient demographics and insurance information.
