The Medical Administration Specialist for the Health Administration Service represents management on all administrative matters, maintains continuity of functions, and provides full medical administrative support to clinical and administrative medical center staff during other than noramal business hours.
Interprets VA rules and regulations relating to determining legal entitlements and benefits pertaining to hospital admission, community care, and patient transfer. Coordinates the resolution of medical legal problems concerning the medical center. Processes administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death, suicides, assaults, homicides, facility or community disasters, etc. Directs and advises clinical staff on appropriate administrative actions regarding patient activity.
Receives and responds to non-routine patient condition inquiries. Oversees determination of applicants' eligibility. Determines extent of release of medical or social data from patients' records. Facilitates urgent transportation for Veterans as needed to include flights for VA organ transplant candidates being sent out of state. Records operative permits, when appropriate, and assists physician in administrative matters.
Monitors fire system, refrigerator temperature alarms, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and codes. Conducts analytical studies on operational processes, issue topics, or related special projects as assigned. Receives phone calls and provides patient advocate support to Veterans and their family members after hours.
