Job Summary

The Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) position is located in the Patient Care Services in the Cardiac Catheterization (Cardiac Cath) Laboratory at the CW Bill Young Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida. The MIT (Cardiac Cath) Above Full Performance Level (FPL) Technicians will be responsible for answering questions for all staff on Cardiac Catheterization procedures and equipment. The MIT will assist the practitioner with the mist complex and non-standard procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the Medical Instrument Technician (Cardiac Catheterization) include, but are not limited to: The Above FPL MIT Cardiac catheterization at this level aids the physician in all aspects of standard cardiac catheterization and related invasive procedures such as coronary angioplasty, pulmonary angioplasty, and intra-aortic balloon insertion.

The MIT select, set up, and calibrate surgical instruments, catheters, radiographic contrast injectors, and radiographic imaging devices. They prepare cardiac medication for administration by the physician and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and take appropriate action.

The Cardiac Cath MIT will float to all areas as assigned by Nursing Leadership Demonstrates ability to assess processed image media for technical quality, and patient identification, ensuring that relative anatomy is demonstrated. It is essential the Cath Lab staff understand and adhere to the established policies regarding on-call shifts.

All members of the Cath Lab On-Call Team are mandated to be in the facility within 30 minutes from the time the initial call was initiated. Checks expiration dates on Cath lab supplies and maintains appropriate supply levels and removes expired supplies to avoid usage. Ensures usage and documentation of the Trac Core system with regards to removal and replacement of all stents.

Complies with and ensures the staff adheres to the standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reprocessing/cleaning Reusable Medical devices (RMD) Recognizes and documents changes in veteran condition, verbally reporting changes to the RN and/or Provider.

Responsible for participating within unit based and/or organizational level Shared Governance councils, utilizing clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, and knowledge to assist with finding solutions to problems or issues to improve the quality care provided to our veterans.
