Join the Indian Health Service as a Medical Support Assistant serving communities in the Navajo Area. This position provides receptionist, records management, data entry, and patient registration support; coordinates daily clinic operations; assists patients with required forms; verifies eligibility for healthcare services; and explains insurance coverage and its relationship to healthcare services. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care and treatment in one of several clinics responsible for a variety of medical services. Performs a variety of receptionist duties such as receives patients, visitors, telephone calls; refers calls to appropriate staff; escorts patients into treatment areas, as needed; refers emergencies and walk-ins for treatment; answers routine medical, personnel, and administrative inquiries; and confirms eligibility; maintains patient log Prepares minutes, reports, and memoranda while ensuring proper formatting, grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology. Uses computer systems to schedule appointments, update patient information, print documents, and perform word-processing tasks. Interviews patients and obtains, enters, verifies, and maintains demographic, insurance, authorization, and alternative resource information for registration and accurate billing. Verifies Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance eligibility and coverage requirements; assists patients with registration forms and obtains required signatures for billing and authorization purposes.
