Join the Indian Health Service as a Medical Support Assistant serving communities in the Navajo Area. The position provides patient registration and eligibility services, including processing demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, Purchase Referred Care, and private/commercial insurance within the Business Office. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Interviews patients and/or family members to obtain and verify demographic, tribal eligibility, and insurance information and update health records. Verifies patient eligibility and third-party coverage by contacting insurance providers and applicable federal and state agencies; identifies and refers potential eligibility cases as appropriate. Enters and maintains patient information, assists with required forms, and obtains necessary documentation and signatures for alternate resources and Purchase Referred Care. Oversees the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process by coordinating with physicians, nurses, patients, and other staff; completes required documentation, patient identification, admission and discharge forms, diagnoses, and coding. Maintains and reconciles inpatient census and statistical reports, verifies patient movement and discharge information, researches discrepancies, and makes appropriate corrections.
