This position is located within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS), at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FXHCC). This position functions as a Motor Vehicle Operator for the Facilities Management Department.
This includes transporting VA MC personnel, equipment, supplies and other items essential to the support of core functions bet ween the FXHCC and the main campus of the Richmond VAMC.
Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates all vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to approximately 29,500 lbs. in order to carry out all the functions of Engineering Service and support the needs of the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FXHCC). Operates gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions and is required to load and unload vehicles.
Dispatches General Services Administration (GSA) vehicles, coordinates needed maintenance and repairs, and keeps vehicles clean. Transports patients, medical records, medical equipment, supplies, linen, mail, VAMC personnel and other items essential to the day-to-day operations of the FXHCC. Operates gasoline, diesel, electric or alternative fuel powered vehicles of all types with heavy loads and is required to load and unload vehicles.
May operate special purpose vehicles equipped with a power take off and levers, buttons, pedals, etc. to control the equipment. Performs routine driver's maintenance on vehicle in operation. Is familiar with GSA vehicle books and regulations and uses the Operation Guide for each vehicle driven. Is responsible for proper cargo load placement and cargo binding. Assures that cargo does not overload axle weights and does not shift, spill, or break loose.
Passes a periodic driving record background check. Performs other duties as assigned.
