Job Summary

The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for movement of furnishings, equipment, boxes, etc. to predetermined areas including offices, lobbies, and storage areas at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Mental Health Annex, Community Based Outpatient employee residences.

Major Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Must maintain a valid drivers license in order to operate a vehicles as required by GSA and the State of Michigan. Have the ability to load and unload furniture / equipment from vehicles. Performing operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires. Operating vehicles have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds. Vehicles are operated over Federal, state and county roads and city streets to transport supplies, materials or equipment and tools in all traffic conditions. The Motor Vehicle Operator / Laborer is occasionally responsible for assembly / disassembly of furnishings; inventorying available stored furniture; organization of storage locations (furniture storage rooms, storage pods, and equipment storage areas); performing minor maintenance / repairs to office furniture; and properly completing, submitting, and filing all turn-in requests for unserviceable or excess furniture and equipment. The incumbent coordinates with individuals involved in moves to establish times and provide guidance as to how and when moves will be performed. Will respond timely to all requests for furnishings and movement of furnishings will provide responses to Supervisors and employees submitting requests. Performing other related duties required to maintain the environment in healthy, sanitary, and safe conditions for use by Medical Center Staff, patients, and visitors. Routine tasks include, but are not limited to: waste removal, transport of general refuse, regulated medical waste and recycling to central collection areas, dusting, polishing, dust mopping, damp mopping; cleaning of urinals, sinks, commodes. The Incumbent maintains a stock of cleaning supplies in a designated Housekeeping Aide closet for easy accessibility by Housekeepers. The incumbent properly places ''caution signs'' when accomplishing floor work, informing others of possible slick / wet floors. The incumbent keeps Staff, patient, and public restrooms clean, orderly, and sanitary. He / She notifies Supervisors of any broken glass, water leaks, clogged drains or other maintenance problems. The incumbent, with minimal supervision, must be able to follow specific procedures for environmental cleaning.
