This position is located at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. The work includes the operation of gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers, or to tow or recover equipment. The vehicles are driven in restricted traffic environments on Government installations, over public roads and highways, or under cross-country conditions.
Major duties include but not limited to: Hauling cargo and fuel, transporting passengers, or tows/recovers equipment. Performing operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires and cleaning and washing vehicle. Operating vehicles have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds. Vehicles are operated over Federal, state and county roads and city streets to transport personnel, supplies, materials or equipment and tools in all traffic conditions. Driving vehicles in restricted traffic environments on government installations, over public roads and highways, or under cross-country conditions. Operating wheeled vehicles, wheel-mounted tractors; or engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction. Performing other related duties. During driving down-time may perform duties as patient wheelchair escort, make patient reminder calls and other light clerical duties.
