This position is in Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) under Medical Administration Service at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Medical Center, in Marion, IL (1) as well as Evansville, IN (1) and supported catchment area. The primary purpose of this position is to provide various passengers transportation to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other locations.
Major duties and responsibilities will include: Receiving work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager; Incumbent is responsible to ensure that only eligible Veterans and their caregivers are transported to the Medical Center and CBOCs and returned to their respective pick-up locations.
Serving as a patient transportation driver shuttling patients to and from approved locations up to 150-mile radius. Provides non-emergent, safe transportation of eligible Veterans and cargo.
Arriving at and departing from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times; Reading installation maps and judging road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route; Enforcing passenger safety and seatbelt use; Using multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in and out of the vehicles for assigned trips and duties daily; Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies; Inspecting, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on vehicles and will require completing routine reporting requirements for the WS Program.
Operates and provides preventive maintenance for VTS patient transport vehicles. Maintaining records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports; Marion, IL VAMC and/or Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) via the VTS shuttle.
Using two-way radios (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations; Incumbent is responsible for providing the travel office with a list of Veterans who arrived at the Incumbent interacts in a courteous and respectful manner with a wide variety of people each day. Performs other related duties as assigned.
