Job Summary

This vacancy is for a GS-0871-13, Naval Architect located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, CG R and D CENTER TECHNICAL DIVISION in NEW LONDON, Connecticut.

Key Responsibilities

As a Naval Architect in the Technical Division at the Coast Guard Research and Development Center, you will apply naval architecture and marine engineering expertise in support of research, development, testing, and evaluation efforts. You will contribute to the development and evaluation of innovative maritime technologies and solutions designed to enhance Coast Guard operations and mission effectiveness.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Managing designated research, development, test and evaluation projects as a subject matter expert on Maritime Vehicles Technology. Reporting status and technical progress to project managers and engaging in all required project tracking tasks.

Developing solutions to problems encountered in all aspects of Naval architecture and marine engineering areas that contribute and extend to scientific and engineering knowledge. Conducting analysis and applying findings from comprehensive technical reviews to recommend changes to existing directives.

Contributing to test events, field exercises, lab demonstrations, and outreach events to conduct test and evaluation to support RDC projects and share information with internal and external sponsors and stakeholders.

Writing comprehensive research reports, presenting findings to sponsors and stakeholders, and briefing a wide range of audiences from field technicians and operators to senior level agency executives Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application.

Requirements & Education

This position has a positive education requirement.
