Job Summary

The Nurse Manager - Medical/Surgical Unit position is in Nursing Service at the VA White River Junction Healthcare System, located at the White River Junction, VT location. This is a temporary detail, not to exceed one (1) year, for internal applicants of WRJ. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week NOTE: The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this position. For more information, refer to Required Documents below.

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse Manager functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

Duties Include but are not limited to: Designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.

Enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Seeks knowledge from professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.

The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This is a temporary detail, not to exceed one (1) year. The position which may be extended or converted to a permanent position without further competitive procedures. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay.

Requirements & Education

Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment. The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
