Job Summary

*This position is open to Hampton VAMC Employees ONLY* Join the Nursing, SCI and Rehab team at the Hampton VAMC as a Nurse Manager! Here you'll be responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. You'll assesse, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. See below for more details about the position!

Key Responsibilities

The duties are as follows: The NM seeks knowledge from professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.

They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment Engages patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination.

Knowledgeable of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Aware of high reliability principles to deliver consistent care and improve patient outcomes.

Participates in unit based educational activities and continuing education requirements Responsible for maintaining competency to continue personal and professional growth Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate; Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training (VA Handbook 5007, Part III, Chapter 8).

Responsible for maintaining continuous accreditation readiness of his/her units. Responsible for performance improvement data, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians.

The NM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals.

Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility.
