The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Registered Nurse (Pain Management), this position will be located within Pain Management Service.
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Pain Management team serving Veterans at VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System. This is a direct patient care position. The Pain Management RN is responsible for the coordination and delivery of comprehensive, Veteran-centered nursing care for individuals undergoing pain management therapies and invasive procedures. This role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care; safe medication administration; patient education; and close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. The RN ensures a safe procedural environment, maintains accurate documentation, and actively participates in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Ideal candidates possess strong assessment and critical thinking skills, clinical expertise in pain management or procedural care, and a commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for Veterans. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Conduct comprehensive assessments of Veterans experiencing acute or chronic pain. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized pain management plans in collaboration with providers and interdisciplinary teams. Safely administer and monitor pain medications, including opioids and adjuvant therapies, following VA policies and protocols. Educate patients and families about medication usage, potential side effects, and self-management strategies. Assist with and provide nursing care for pain management procedures (e.g., nerve blocks, epidural injections). Maintain sterile field and ensure procedural safety. Provide education on pain management options, self-care, recovery expectations, and emergency precautions. Advocate for Veteran needs during the care continuum. Triage patient referrals, consults, and messages to ensure timely and appropriate access to pain services. Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and facilitate transitions between specialty and primary care as needed. Promote and adhere to VA safety, infection control, and patient safety practices. Document care accurately and promptly in the electronic health record. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and apply HRO (High Reliability Organization) principles. Demonstrate critical thinking and leadership through collaboration and mentorship. Support evidence-based practice and continuous improvement within the clinic. Maintain required competencies and certifications including BLS and ACLS. Preferred Experience: BSN 2 years Pain Management experience Surgical, Perioperative, ICU, or Invasive Procedure experience Strong triage, patient education, care coordination, and clinical assessment skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
