The Wilkes-Barre VA Healthcare System's Primary Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Practitioner (NP) to work in our Compensation and Pension program. The Compensation and Pension NP reviews medical evidence from VA records, private medical records, service treatment records and other evidence presented for evaluation by the veteran.
This position is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. The position requires the CRNP to be responsible for managing the full spectrum of Compensation and Pension clinical and administrative responsibilities.
This includes a review of the available claim evidence, completion of a focused history and physical examination as appropriate and submission of the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) to VBA for adjudication. Computer skills are essential as the Wilkes Barre VA Medical Center utilizes electronic medical records for documentation, entering orders and requesting consults.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct a pertinent history and physical examination and reviews test and procedural results Completes the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) accurately and completely so that it is acceptable for VBA adjudication and rating purposes Engages in dialogue with RO officials when clarification is needed or required and answers any requests for addendum's and opinions using acceptable clinical evidence Complete all requirements in an expedient manner so as not to delay adjudication of the Veterans claim Foster a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals Partner with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes Support colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care Share educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers Must be mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations and able to shift priorities based on patient needs Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity Physicality normally associated with direct patient care duties performed by nurses such as potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, sitting, moderate lifting, repeated bending, or kneeling Significant amounts of time standing assisting assigned patients Utilization of safe patient handling and mobility protocols Other related duties as assigned.
