Job Summary

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVACHS) is seeking to add an experienced full-time Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to our GI Division. Duties will focus on enhancing our Veteransl access to GI care through outpatient clinics. Commitment to excellence in patient care and dedication to the mission of serving our Veterans are essential.

Key Responsibilities

The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology, structural heart procedures, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, Mohs surgery, ERCP, EUS and navigational bronchoscopy. SAVAHCS has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award.

On the recently released CMS hospital ratings, SAVAHCS is the only five-star hospital in Tucson. We are in a growth area for the VA. Consequently, the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility; we are in the construction phase for both an Emergency Department expansion and a Primary Care expansion. SAVACHS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively in an academic medical environment, communicating effectively with students, residents, fellows and attending physicians, as the situation requires. The GI Nurse Practitioner (NP) is with advanced clinical knowledge and to provide professional assessment, coordination, and planning of multiple health care services, emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the VA mission.

The NP, holds clinical privileges, and practices in collaboration with other health care professionals to provide direct and indirect care. Clinical core privileges of the GI NP include the management, treatment, and ordering, performing, and interpreting labs, radiography, and other diagnostic tests for acute and chronic gastroenterological disorders of the adult population.

The NP is responsible for providing care for GI patients in the outpatient setting, acting on behalf of the patients to ensure that necessary clinical services are received and that progress is being made toward GI team care goals. The NP is responsible for clinical documentation for outpatient services. Additional GI NP functions will include: 1. Educate patients and family members on appropriate disease ­modifying behavior. 2.

Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement in the GI division. 3. Maintain mandatory and clinical continuous education of the position and adhere to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice. Tour of duty is 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. There may be a requirement for limited overtime on very rare occasions.

Work will be at the main Tucson campus, at the Northwest Community Based Outpatient Clinic or via telehealth technologies; travel to rural clinics is not required.
