The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Seasonal Staffing Office- Rocky Mountain National Park is April-May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. This position works in the Division of Interpretation and Education as a Park Ranger Interpreter/EMT with responsibilities for visitor orientation and information, interpretation, and emergency medical services.Must possess a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification valid through October 31, 2027.
Some of the Park Ranger (Interpretation) Standard Duties include but are not limited to: Develop and present a variety of programs including guided walks, illustrated talks (PowerPoint amphitheater and campfire programs) and demonstrations. Develop programs using principles of the NPS thematic interpretation model through topic research, familiarity with and creative use of delivery techniques.
Provide informal interpretation and orientation for park guests in visitor centers, ranger stations and while roving in the field. Perform cashier duties and assist with a variety of special projects to support park goals. Actively promote the safety of park visitors and stewardship of park resources in all interactions, and potentially serve as the initial contact for accident reporting and emergency assistance.
Additional duties for GS-5: You will present informal and formal talks. Lead guided tours, and respond to visitor inquiries for information, direction and guidance. Additional duties for GS-7: You will perform duties listed at the GS-5 level as well as provide on-the-job training and assistance to team members.
Physical Demands: The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough and uneven surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc. at elevations between 7,500 and 12,500 ft. Work Environment: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g. high or low temperatures, confined spaces, or adverse weather.
Area Information: Established on January 29, 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park is a living showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. The park embraces 415 square miles of pristine, uninhabited mountains in north-central Colorado and, as such, is one of the most spectacular, yet easily accessible high mountain areas in North America.
With elevations ranging from 7,800 feet at park headquarters to 14,259 feet at the summit of Longs Peak, the park has glacier-sculptured valleys, rugged gorges, alpine lakes, and vast areas of alpine tundra. Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved continuous road in the United States, stays above tree line for 11 miles and reaches 12,183 feet in elevation.
Due to the park's easy accessibility to the Front Range communities of Colorado, Rocky experiences over 4 million visitors annually. This position will be filled on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The nearest community is Estes Park, CO, which has K-12 schools, a post office, restaurants, medical facilities, and grocery stores. Denver, CO which has a major airport, cultural events, and several professional sports teams is a two hour drive away.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign education programs and that (1) deemed your education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or (2) given full credit for courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
