Job Summary

The purpose of interpretation is to enrich people's lives through meaningful experiences and enjoyable recreation; preserve and protect natural and cultural resources through broad collaboration and shared stewardship; and inspire social and environmental consciousness to build community and sustain the health of the planet.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Develop and present a wide variety of formal and informal audience learner-centered interpretive experiences using a variety of fully developed interpretive skills, techniques and tools delivered in-person and through interpretive media and technology. Coordinate the operation of a visitor facility and/or information desk.

Develop daily work schedules that include tours of duty and location of assignments for the supervisor's approval. Engage in and monitor visitor services provided by lower graded employees, critique these activities, and recommend improvements. Guide the learning of others through formal or informal methods.

Train, mentor, coach, and evaluate a broad range of interpretive programs and products conducted by fellow interpreters, critique these activities, and recommend individual or program improvements. Identify training needs; provide constructive feedback; and coach others on how to perform tasks and meet professional standards.

May develop/deliver in-park, off-site, and/or virtual education programs that tie NPS resources to education standards (national, state, and local) and/or are aligned with needs of educational organizations and their students. Perform various administrative duties, e.g., scheduling, gathering routine information for reports, compilation of statistical data, etc. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion and can involve extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines outdoors or in caves, and carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Some employees may engage in firefighting, search and rescue, and other strenuous activities; these employees may be required to lift or carry equipment weighing more than 50 pounds over long distances.

Employees who participate in all-risk operations will be required to meet fitness requirement on a continuing basis. Working Environment: The work can include moderate risks or discomforts that require safety precautions (e.g., exposure to extreme temperatures, climates, rough terrain, wild animals, pests, and/or insects). The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, boots, gloves, etc.

Some employees may be engaged in all-risk operations and be exposed to high risk and potentially dangerous situations which require a range of safety and other precautions. Area information: Ste. Genevieve is a city in Ste. Genevieve Township and is the county seat of Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, United States, located along the west bank of the Mississippi River near the Illinois state line along Interstate 55, U.S.

Route 61, and Missouri Route 32, approximately 46 mi (74 km) south-southeast of St. Louis and 196 mi (315 km) north-northwest of Memphis, Tennessee. The population was 4,410 at the 2010 census. Founded in 1735 by French Canadian colonists and settlers from east of the river, it was the first organized European settlement west of the Mississippi River in present-day Missouri. Public education in Ste. Genevieve is administered by Ste. Genevieve R-II School District.[16] Ste.

Requirements & Education

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
