The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center is hiring for one Pharmacist - Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor. The incumbent acts as a representative of the Pharmacy Service and is responsible for the professional and administrative management of the Outpatient Pharmacy area of the Pharmacy Service, including budgetary execution.
The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the multiple pharmacists, technicians, students, residents, and volunteers within the Outpatient area.
The incumbent maintains effective interdepartmental relations and cooperates with other services to accomplish the facilities missions and goals in a timely and proactive fashion. The incumbent develops performance standards and measurements for staff and the department area and assures that the program area is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
The incumbent is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining orientation, training programs, and systems to monitor the performance of staff activities. The incumbent is responsible for developing policies and procedures related to the service area and the Pharmacy department as required. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Supervisory Functions as a Supervisor to the Outpatient Pharmacy area to provide first-line coordination and oversight to related activities.
Is responsible for scheduling, planning, directing, controlling, and coordinating comprehensive Outpatient distributive pharmacy services Establishes and maintains a climate that fosters excellence Responsible for the security of the assigned area particularly as it relates to controlled substances.
Helps to ensure departmental and medication security, including controlled substances as required by VA and DEA Oversees the day-to-day maintenance and operation of pharmacy equipment and automation.
Utilizes available reporting functions to optimize the efficiency of the equipment Administrative Familiar with the operation and applicability of all pharmacy information systems (VistA, CPRS, Omnicell, ScriptPro, Pandora, etc) to design and generate necessary reports to monitor pharmacy service performance Responsible for the development, revision, and implementation of policy and procedures for this area Maintains good workflow patterns to keep drug distribution in accordance with the all necessary requirements, while ensuring accurate dispensing and record keeping Ensures compliance with USP 795 standards, including competency training of pharmacy staff (as applicable for cross-coverage needs) Pharmacy Practice Maintains competencies and skills necessary to work/staff in Outpatient or Inpatient Pharmacy if/when the needs of the organization require coverage to deliver seamless patient care Staffing may include off-tour coverage when deemed essential to the efficient operation of the assigned area The incumbent is responsible for the following clinical pharmacist functions: Verifying provider orders are complete and appropriate for dose, route and frequency; Screening orders for incomparability's, patient allergies, and drug interactions; Providing patient-specific therapeutic drug monitoring and communicating relevant findings and/or recommendations to other health care providers in charge of patients both in orally and in writing.
Educational Assists with coordinating the orientation and training of Pharmacy employees, residents, students, and volunteers working in or assigned to the Outpatient Pharmacy area Responsible for assuring that the educational goals of the department, facility, network, and national edicts have been met Responsible for communicating new programs, updates and/or changes to staff Completes all competencies for staff and assures that staff competencies are completed in a timely manner Other related duties as assigned by the Chief of the Pharmacy Service Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am to 430pm Compressed/Flexible: Not Available Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized
