This position is located in Pharmacy Service at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. Pharmacy technicians may fill orders, dispense/deliver medications using automated systems or provide technical customer service to Veterans related to prescription needs.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Prepare medications by counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, and mixing or compounding oral and intravenous medications. Prepare medications for distribution to inpatient wards and clinics and outpatients for pickup and mailing. Works in collaboration with other pharmacy technicians and responds to requests of pharmacists and other pharmacy supervisory staff. Maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, stock, and take inventory of medications. Dispensing prescriptions at the pharmacy window and prepacking medications. Properly stores all pharmaceuticals, taking special precautions in handling of hazardous or perishable materials Obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on order. Prepackages medications in unit of use or unit dose packaging with proper label. Inventories replenished emergency carts without a second view. Collects drug use evaluation data for quality improvements purposes. Operates and maintains complicated pharmacy equipment Compounds and/or reconstitutes oral or external medications (non-sterile) without a second review. This includes calculating and converting to proper weights and measures the amount of drug or solution to be used Answers questions from pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel regarding drug distribution. Identifies basic therapeutic problems such as duplicate therapy with drugs in the same class and alerts the pharmacist to the possible need for clinical intervention. Performs all duties of lower graded technicians, if required. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Rotating all shifts-12a-12p;Nights;Days;Holidays;weekends; 7a-330p;1030a-7p; 3p-11. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
