Job Summary

The incumbent will serve as a Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) evaluating current levels of function for diverse patients with multiple or complex diagnoses. The licensed Physical Therapist (PT) will display skills in the area of inpatient, outpatient, and CLC (Community Living Center or "nursing home") environments and is a working member of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation team.

VA Careers - Physical Therapy: https://youtube.com/embed/Gi2hoFqIoqY Major duties include, but are not limited to: Receive patient consultations from an appropriate physician or practitioner having referral privileges, including inpatients, outpatients, CLC, and OIF/OEF clinic.

Review medical records to assess appropriateness of the referral to Physical Therapy and possible contraindications for treatment Provide independent Physical Therapy evaluations including medical history and various tests and measurements for Veterans. Interpret results of their own tests and information in the medical record.

Evaluate patients for musculoskeletal, neuropathic pain spectrums, and various other diagnoses utilizing appropriate treatment approaches which include manual therapy, therex/home exercise, balance and vestibular rehabilitation, use of emerging modalities, and any other treatment indicated because of the evaluation. Utilize evaluation data to implement comprehensive patient treatment and goals, involving patient/family/caregivers in the goal-setting process as indicated.

Modify treatment plans according to reevaluation findings on an on-going basis to better meet short- and long-term goals. Employ highly motivational techniques to enlist patient participation and adapts equipment and procedures to carry out a full range of complex treatment activities.

Evaluate patient's needs for assistive devices, submitting requests for devices from Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Department or assists in scheduling patients for the appropriate prosthetic/orthotic clinic for definitive prescription and fabrication. Plan and implement appropriate patient education programs as an integral part of the treatment procedure, involving the patient, family, and/or significant others in the instructional process.

Document performance of patient treatment and procedures for determining productivity level of the applied treatment approach. Plan and present inservice education programs in areas of particular interest or expertise for Physical Therapy section or PMRD personnel and to other services, as appropriate. Participate with the education of Veterans and staff through classroom settings, in-services, and informal presentations.

Assists in coverage for absent staff members to insure continuity of care for patients. Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday Telework: Not Authorized. Functional Statement #: 41568F Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized
