Job Summary

The therapist is responsible for patient scheduling, assessment, goal setting, patient education, treatment implementation and discharge planning for patients referred to physical therapy. The caseload is comprised of inpatients, outpatients and home-based patients with a marked diversity of physical dysfunction.

The therapist may complete assessment and treatment on patients in the main PT clinic, on the inpatient wards, in the home or in assisted living facilities. The therapist performs and interprets the results of tests and measurements of the patient's status in order to formulate an appropriate, comprehensive treatment plan.

The incumbent demonstrates the ability to treat patients with more complex medical problems utilizing both standard and non-standard techniques. The Physical Therapist has the ability to make autonomous clinical decisions in a Direct Access environment. This includes ability to independently evaluate and treat patients who seek physical therapy services.

Skill in performing examinations and evaluations of individuals who have or may develop impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions related to conditions of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and/or integumentary systems while considering the effects attributable to unique psychosocial and environmental factors.

Ability to interpret findings from examination and evaluation, select appropriate test and measures, and integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care for the full range of patient populations.
