The Physician Assistant (PA) practices in Endocrinology Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The PA provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
The Endocrinology Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for managing and providing comprehensive healthcare to patients with endocrine disorders. This includes the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic endocrine conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and other hormonal imbalances. The PA collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.
Major Duties and responsibilities of the position: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develops and implements and individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiate referrals and consultations to specialty services. Provides education to patients and their families. Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Administrative Responsibilities Completes required documentation, care coordination tasks, consult management, and encounter closure within established timelines.
Participates in clinic management activities to improve access, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. Complies with all VA performance measures, quality metrics, and national guidelines related to endocrine disorders (e.g., Diabetes Mellitus Quality Indicators). Contributes to policy development, standard operating procedures, and quality-improvement initiatives within the Endocrinology clinic. Performance Standards: Demonstrates clinical competence in endocrine care.
Consistently provides high-quality patient care. Effectively collaborates with the healthcare team. Maintains compliance with documentation and record-keeping standards.
