The Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiologist to join our team. As a Cardiologist, you will provide expert medical care for patients with cardiovascular diseases and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care to our veterans.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Patient Care: Conduct thorough cardiovascular examinations and assessments. Diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of heart and vascular conditions. Develop comprehensive treatment plans including medications, lifestyle modifications, and surgical interventions if necessary. Interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and cardiac catheterizations.
Provide ongoing follow-up care and monitoring for patients with chronic cardiovascular conditions. 2. Clinical Procedures: Perform and supervise cardiac procedures including but not limited to angioplasty, stenting, electrophysiology studies, and pacemaker/ICD implantation. Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and standards during all procedures. 3.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with primary care physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care for patients with cardiovascular conditions. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and outcomes. Communicate effectively with patients and their families to educate them about their conditions and treatment options. 4.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation in accordance with VA policies and regulations. Ensure compliance with all relevant medical and ethical standards, guidelines, and regulations. 5. Education and Training: Provide education and training to medical students, residents, and fellows in the field of cardiology.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in cardiology through continuous education and participation in professional organizations and conferences. 6. Research and Quality Improvement: Engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
