The Dermatologist is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of invasive, consultative, and outpatient Dermatology patient care at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center. The incumbent is accountable to the Lead Physician, Dermatology section assuring the most effective delivery of care in services within Medical Section, Fredericksburg Health Care Center (HCC).

Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care. Midlevel supervision within Dermatology section if applicable. Procedural skills may include simple excision and repair, skin and nail biopsy, electro surgery basic, basic cryosurgery for benign lesions, advanced cryotherapy, curettage, Botox injections for hyperhidrosis. Consultative input to outpatient care.
Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation. Performs the administrative components of patient care management, such as: Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff. Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level.
Miscellaneous activities of the facility inclusive, but not limited to special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Section Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff and/or the Fredericksburg HCC Leadership. Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization. Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
