The Board Certified Dermatologist at Robley Rex VA Medical Center will be responsible for providing comprehensive dermatologic care to our veteran population. This includes diagnosis, treatment, and management of skin conditions, diseases, and cosmetic concerns. The position requires working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care and may include clinical research and teaching responsibilities within the VA healthcare system.
Duties and Responsibilities to include: Patient Care: Perform thorough skin examinations on veteran patients. Diagnose and treat a variety of skin conditions, including but not limited to acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer. Perform dermatologic procedures such as biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, laser treatments, and cosmetic procedures (e.g., Botox, fillers).
Provide patient education on skin health, disease prevention, and treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of veterans. Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with primary care physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals within the VA system to coordinate veteran care. Provide dermatologic consultations to inpatient units and other outpatient services as needed. Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
Clinical Research and Education: Engage in clinical research activities aimed at advancing the field of dermatology, with a focus on improving veteran health outcomes. Mentor and provide education to medical students, residents, and other healthcare staff within the VA system. Stay current with advancements in dermatology through continuous education and participation in professional organizations.
Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters in the VA's electronic health record (EHR) system. Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and quality improvement projects. Ensure compliance with all VA regulatory and accreditation requirements. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
